RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Vice Minister of Creative Economy/Deputy Head of the Creative Economy Agency (Ekraf), Irene Umar, is exploring synergy opportunities with Tabletoys Indonesia, a promising local board game developer. This gaming sub-sector has a value-added ecosystem and brings local identity to the global market.

"Local games are not just for entertainment; they must also be licensed and have intellectual property protection. We can encourage many events to showcase board games with Tabletoys Indonesia. This way, the gaming sub-sector can succeed because it has economic value and serves as an educational medium," the vice Minister of Creative Economy stated during an audience at Thamrin Nine, Jakarta, Thursday, April 30 2026.

She believes in the importance of strengthening the domestic market as a foundation for the growth of local games into the global market. Furthermore, opportunities for the gaming sub-sector will be further enhanced by activation at international events.

"We can't just rely on the local market; we must actively strengthen the distribution of local games for sustainable growth through international events. We hope that going forward, every local game activist will continue to communicate with the association and submit every creative product or game they create through the Creative Economy Hunt," she stated.

According to a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia on Friday, May 1, 2026 that tabletoys Indonesia began its journey in 2016 through its Board Game Store and continued into 2017 with its Board Game Library, a platform for introducing board games and preparing for the market. In 2018, it became a Board Game Publisher, launching the local board game Waroong Wars and continuing its participation in international exhibitions.

"We started as a community and then grew to bring Indonesian games to the international market. Tabletoys Indonesia must sustain and scale up. Our focus is on strengthening our branding, both locally and internationally, so we need assistance and facilitation. We also need an international presence to receive assistance in registering Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)," Martin Ang, President Director of Tabletoys Indonesia conveyed.

From the creative economy perspective, Martin Ang also addressed several challenges faced, such as limited distribution of local games to the domestic market and support from associations that are deemed not to represent the interests of game publishers.

It was also attended by the Director of Games at the Ministry of Creative Economy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, S.P. Sihombing and Director of Digital Tabletoys Indonesia Maria Wenny.
