Government Ensures Carbon Trading Has High Quality and Integrity

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indoneisna's Ministry of Forestry conducted a socialization of the Minister of Forestry Regulation Number 6 of 2026 concerning the Procedures for Carbon Trading in the Forestry Sector. This socialization was held at the Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.
Thru this regulation, the government ensures that the communities around the forests are no longer just spectators, but are directly involved as part of the actors who benefit from carbon management.
The President's Special Envoy for Energy and Climate, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, expressed appreciation for the issuance of the Minister of Forestry Regulation Number 6 of 2026 concerning the Procedures for Carbon Trading in the Forestry Sector.
"Carbon trading, especially thru the mechanism of greenhouse gas emission offsets in the forestry sector, is an important and strategic matter that can serve as a funding incentive to enhance climate change mitigation actions, including the sustainable preservation of forests," he said.
Moreover, Hashim also underscored that the Government encourages the implementation of the Minister of Forestry Regulation Number 6 of 2026 as a strategic step to strengthen transparent, accountable, and high-integrity carbon trading in the forestry sector. This aims to support the achievement of national emission reduction targets while opening up climate financing opportunities thru the international carbon market by involving the government, private sector, and society.
The Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, in his speech, stated that thru Permenhut 6/2026, a clearer, more transparent, and trustworthy regulatory framework is being presented. To support carbon trading in the forestry sector for businesses, communities, and global partners to contribute.
"One of the main breakthroughs in this regulation is the clear flow from start to finish, starting from the implementation of mitigation activities, measurement and calculation of carbon units, validation and verification, as well as recording in the national system, to the implementation of carbon trading itself," Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni stated.
Through the regulation, the government emphasizes a new direction for Indonesia's forest management, which is to keep the forests sustainable while ensuring that the economic benefits can be felt inclusively and fairly.
