RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi – The National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) conducted a simulation of the railway signaling system as part of its investigation into the collision between a commuter line train (KRL) and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train at Bekasi Timur Station. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi, said the simulation aims to understand possible technical causes, particularly related to the function and response of the signaling system at the time of the incident.

“The simulation results are an important basis for identifying the causes of the accident as well as potential weaknesses in the system,” Dudy said at Bekasi Timur Station on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

KNKT emphasized that the investigation is being carried out thoroughly, objectively, and based on field data. The Ministry of Transportation has committed to following up on the investigation results to improve railway operational safety. “We reiterate that safety is our top priority,” he said.

Previously, the ministry reported that the total number of victims reached 106 passengers, comprising 91 injured and 15 fatalities. Of the injured, 38 passengers have been discharged.

Meanwhile, PT Kereta Api Indonesia stated that operational recovery is ongoing. The downstream track has been reopened since early Tuesday (April 28, 2026), while the upstream track was cleared of debris early Wednesday (April 29). The minister also conducted a test ride on a commuter train from Bekasi Timur Station to Cikarang Station to ensure the readiness of the tracks previously affected by the accident.

The accident, which occurred on Monday night, April 27, is suspected to have been triggered by an incident involving a Green SM Indonesia electric taxi that was struck by a commuter train at a level crossing near the scene. However, transportation observers point to more complex underlying issues.

Preliminary reports indicate that at least 15 people were killed and dozens injured after Argo Bromo Anggrek Train No. 4 (Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route) collided with the rear of KRL TM 5568A, which had stopped at Platform 2 of Bekasi Timur Station at around 8:50 p.m. local time. The incident caused train services along the Jakarta–Cikarang corridor to come to a complete halt.

President Prabowo Subianto visited Bekasi Regional General Hospital on Tuesday (April 28), where several injured victims were being treated, and ordered a thorough investigation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
