RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The death toll from the train collision at Bekasi Timur Railway Station has risen to 16. State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Vice President of Corporate Communications, Anne Purba, reported the latest developments in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

KAI’s latest figures show a total of 107 victims, comprising 16 fatalities and 91 injured passengers. Of those injured, 43 have been discharged after treatment, while the rest remain hospitalized.

“We extend our deepest condolences to all the victims and their families. Our priority is to ensure that every victim receives the best possible care and that families are kept informed,” Anne said, as quoted by Antara.

On the operational side, restoration of Commuter Line services is progressing. Following the evacuation of trains and infrastructure, test runs have been conducted to verify track and system readiness. At 11:55 a.m. Jakarta time on Wednesday, April 29, a CL-125.4008 train successfully passed through Bekasi Timur Station as part of the trial.

“These test runs are crucial to confirm the readiness of infrastructure, signaling systems, and safety measures before services resume. The process is being carried out carefully, with safety as the top priority,” Anne explained.

KAI has also established information centers at Bekasi Timur and Gambir Railway Stations to assist victims’ families and affected passengers. Found belongings are being registered and will be returned through a coordinated process. For long-distance passengers, Gambir Station is also handling ticket refund requests.

KAI emphasized that operational restoration will proceed in phases, based on safety evaluations and testing. Updates will continue to be provided as the on-site response develops.
