RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has moved quickly to anticipate rising corn prices at the livestock farmer level, which have exceeded the reference price of Rp5,800 per kilogram. The Food Supply and Price Stabilization (locally abbreviated as SPHP) program for feed corn is set to roll out this week to contain further price pressures.

As quoted by a press release on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, National Food Agency (BPN) confirmed that it has officially assigned Perum Bulog to carry out the distribution. Verification of beneficiary data has also been completed in coordination with the Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry of Agriculture.

“We report that as corn prices at the farmer level increase and the main harvest season may be partly over, the agency has assigned Bulog to distribute SPHP corn, and we hope distribution can begin this week,” Director of SPHP at National Food Agency, Maino Dwi Hartono conveyed.

The program targets a total distribution of 242,000 tons through the end of 2026. More than 5,000 livestock farmers across 26 provinces covering micro, small, and medium scales with a combined poultry population of 53 million are expected to benefit.

“The target is 242,000 tons, distributed across 26 provinces, which is significantly higher than last year’s 17 provinces," Maino mentioned. This, he added, means regions that were previously not included are now accommodated under the Ministry of Agriculture’s decree.

At the current stage, around 213,100 tons are expected to be distributed, leaving approximately 28,800 tons in reserve. This remaining allocation is intended to accommodate new applicants, including pig farmers whose proposals are still under review.

Meanwhile, the feed corn prices under the program are set at Rp5,000 per kilogram at the warehouses of state-owned logistic company Bulog and capped at Rp5,500 per kilogram at the farmer level. Distribution will be carried out through cooperatives or associations to registered beneficiaries.

Authorities also affirmed that distribution to production centers must consider harvest periods and local price conditions. This is necessary to avoid depressing corn prices at the farmer level in producing regions.

As of 27 April 2026, the National Food Agency recorded feed corn prices at Rp6,758 per kilogram, or 16.52 percent above the reference price. The government is closely monitoring these fluctuations, as rising feed costs can directly affect the prices of chicken meat and eggs.

Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) shows that chicken meat has been among the top contributors to year-to-date inflation, alongside jewelry gold. Despite this, the number of regions experiencing price increases for chicken products has been declining.

“If we look at year-to-date inflation up to March, the largest contributors are jewelry gold and chicken meat. Both commodities have consistently contributed to inflation since January and February,” Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at the Statistics Indonesia,Ateng Hartono said.

The Statistics Indonesia also reported improving trends in regional price stability. By the fourth week of April, 98 districts recorded increases in egg prices, while 184 districts saw declines, and for chicken meat, 89 districts experienced increases compared to 203 districts with declining prices.
