RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) Head Muhammad Syafii stated that the evacuation of victims from the Bekasi train collision was successfully completed within 12 hours. The joint team managed to rescue the five remaining victims who had been trapped under the wreckage.
“I can confirm that we have found no further victims. However, during the process of clearing the train wreckage, should even the smallest body part be found, we will take action in accordance with procedure,” Syafii said at Bekasi Timur Railway Station on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
He explained that the locomotive of the intercity train (KAJJ) was not evacuated simultaneously with the Commuter Line train because several victims required special handling.
“At that time, there were indeed five victims who were still trapped, and we had to carry out an extrication procedure to rescue them without causing further harm,” he said.
Extrication is a rescue technique that uses cutting and lifting methods to free victims trapped in metal structures. The remaining sections of the train are still being removed from the tracks.
The downstream track has been reopened, although intercity train services remain disrupted. A total of 25 train schedules have been delayed due to track normalization efforts, while 27 intercity trips have been canceled. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has announced that passengers who purchased tickets will receive refunds.
Emergency response posts will remain on standby for 14 days at Bekasi Railway Station in West Java and Gambir Railway Station in Central Jakarta. In addition, the 121 call center has been activated to provide updated information to families.
KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin emphasized that the investigation into the cause of the accident will be handed over to the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT). “We do not want to speculate because the investigation must follow proper procedures,” he said.
