RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has confirmed that the government will investigate the train collision in Bekasi, West Java, to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, which resulted in fatalities and injuries.

“We will immediately investigate the details of the incident. However, broadly speaking, many railroad crossings are unsafe, and we will address this immediately,” said the President while visiting the victims at the regency-owned public hospital RSUD Chasbullah Abdulmadjid (RSUD CAM) in Bekasi City on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

According to the President, there are 1,800 unguarded railroad crossings across the island of Java. Regarding this issue, the President has ordered that the problem be resolved, including by constructing guard posts at railroad crossings.

The President added that constructing guard posts at these railroad crossings would require a budget of approximately IDR 4 trillion (approx. USD 231.95 million). He assured that this would be implemented immediately to ensure public safety.

“I have already given the order, and we will immediately address all of these issues,” the President said while also emphasizing that he would appoint the responsible parties.

President Prabowo also promised to assist with the construction of an overpass in Bekasi City. According to him, this is an urgent necessity for the city’s residents' safety.

The Bekasi City Administration has proposed constructing an overpass because the city is densely populated, making it extremely important and urgent. I have approved the project and pledged central government support to ensure its completion,” he said.

The train collision occurred at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday evening, April 27, 2026, after a Commuter Line electric train struck a Green SM electric taxi that had stopped on the tracks. The impact forced a Commuter Line train from the opposite direction to stop at Bekasi Station, where it was struck from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek intercity train from Jakarta.
