RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi – State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has temporarily suspended passenger services at Bekasi Timur Station following a train accident. As a result, commuter line services are currently operating only as far as Bekasi Station pending further investigation.

The incident occurred in the Bekasi Timur Station area, Regional Operation (Daop) I Jakarta, on Monday evening, April 27, 2026. The temporary closure was implemented to support the handling process and ensure operational safety.

KAI apologized to customers for the disruption. “Our primary focus right now is on the on-site response and ensuring that safety and service for customers remain guaranteed,” said KAI Vice President for Corporate Communications, Anne Purba, early on Tuesday, April 28.

Passengers are being directed to use services via Bekasi Station until further notice. Operational adjustments for the Bekasi route remain ongoing as the on-site response continues.

Earlier, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said rescue personnel were evacuating victims to the fullest extent possible. He stressed that the government is prioritizing victim safety and ensuring that the response proceeds swiftly and effectively.

“Regarding the cause of the incident, we are leaving it to the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) for a more in-depth investigation,” Minister Dudy said Monday evening.

KAI continues to coordinate with relevant authorities to expedite the restoration of services. The company stated that updates will be provided periodically through official channels. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
