Regional Autonomy Day Marks Call for Efficient Governance

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya has called for stronger, more effective, and efficient governance, emphasizing that regional autonomy is a dynamic and evolving concept that requires good leadership to succeed.

“Regional autonomy is closely linked to authority. But this authority must be balanced with capacity and integrity to achieve optimal results,” Bima said at the 30th Regional Autonomy Day Commemoration on Monday, April 27, 2026.

He stressed that autonomy is not only about authority but also responsibility, particularly in delivering quality public services. Bima highlighted the need for acceleration, synchronization, and collaboration between the central government and regional administrations, as well as stronger communication between regional leaders and the public.

“In this commemoration of Regional Autonomy Day, allow us to convey a message often emphasized by the President: to continue providing effective and efficient governance,” he said.

Bima explained that efficiency goes beyond budget savings and represents a new approach to government management through a transformation of work culture. He also underlined the importance of strengthening regional fiscal capacity, integrity, and regulatory simplification to encourage innovation.

Concluding the ceremony, Bima invited all stakeholders to collaborate in achieving regional autonomy that directly benefits public welfare.

“Happy 30th Regional Autonomy Day. May Allah ease all our efforts to improve the welfare of the people and deliver effective governance that truly serves its citizens,” he said.

The event also featured the presentation of the 2025 National Regional Administration Implementation Evaluation Award Certificates to high-performing regions.

At the provincial level, awards were given to Jakarta, Yogyakarta, West Java, East Java, and South Kalimantan.

At the city level, recipients included Tangerang, South Tangerang, Blitar, Bandung, Salatiga, Denpasar, Makassar, Surabaya, and Semarang. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
