RRI.CO.ID, Shanghai - Indonesia strengthened its cultural cooperation with China through the launch of a joint animation and game research center in Shanghai. The initiative marks a new phase of collaboration focused on digital culture and creative industries.

The center was inaugurated by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon during his working visit to China, Saturday 25 April 2026. The event, based on a release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia, Monday, April 27, 2026, also involved government officials, academics, and industry players from both countries.

Fadli Zon described the center as a milestone in Indonesia–China relations, shifting from cultural exchange to cultural co-creation. He said the collaboration opens opportunities for joint production of creative works with global reach.

“Today, we open a new space for the convergence of culture, technology, talent, creativity, and the future. This center marks a shift from cultural exchange to cultural co-creation,” Fadli Zon conveyed.

He noted that Indonesia and China’s 76-year diplomatic ties have evolved beyond trade and diplomacy into people-to-people connections. In the future, he said, collaboration will increasingly be driven by young creators such as animators, game developers, and digital entrepreneurs.

Fadli Zon highlighted China’s strength as a global hub for digital culture industries, supported by advanced technology and strong commercialization capacity. Meanwhile, Indonesia offers vast cultural diversity that can serve as a rich source of stories and creative content.

“For creators, Indonesia is a universe of stories. The challenge is how this cultural richness can be developed creatively, accurately, and competitively,” he emphasized.

The Minister also stressed that Indonesia must move beyond being a consumer in the global gaming market. “We must ensure that Indonesia does not remain only a consumer, but becomes a producer, creator, developer, and exporter of digital cultural intellectual property,” he said.

He expressed hope that the joint center would bridge technology and culture between the two nations. The initiative is expected to strengthen talent development, expand global market access, and enhance cultural diplomacy through digital innovation.
