RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi - The government has moved quickly to handle the train accident that occurred in the East Bekasi Station area, West Java, on Monday night, April 27, 2026, ensuring that victim evacuation and on-site response are being carried out optimally. President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by Transportation Minister, Dudy Purwagandhi, personally visited victims treated at the Bekasi City Regional General Hospital (RSUD) on Tuesday morning, April 28, to ensure proper handling.

During his visit, President Prabowo, conveyed condolences to the victims and their families and emphasized that the government will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. “I extend my deepest condolences on behalf of myself and the government. We will immediately conduct an investigation to determine the cause of this incident,” President Prabowo said.

The President also stressed the importance of improving transport safety, particularly at level crossings, which are still considered high-risk areas.

Meanwhile, Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi ensured that evacuation and victim handling were carried out quickly, in a coordinated manner, and with full attention to the safety of both victims and field officers. Dudy, along with officials from the Directorate General of Railways and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), has been on site since Monday night through Tuesday morning to directly oversee the response efforts.

“We express our deepest condolences for the victims who passed away. For the injured victims, we hope for a speedy recovery. This incident is an important lesson to continuously improve transportation safety,” Dudy conveyed.

Based on initial reports, the incident began when a commuter line (KRL) operating on the Bekasi–Cikarang route was struck by a car at the JPL 85 level crossing. The train was then evacuated and designated as a Special Train Operation (PLB 5181) as it was unable to continue its scheduled service.

Subsequently, officers stopped another KRL set coded PLB 5568 at Bekasi Timur Station. However, the Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Jakarta–Surabaya route was unable to stop completely and became involved in an incident with the stationary PLB 5568 train. The Ministry of Transportation stated that it continues to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure the evacuation process proceeds optimally in stages and in a controlled manner, prioritizing safety.

The government has also established an Emergency Response Post at Bekasi Timur Station and coordinated medical treatment at several healthcare facilities.

In addition, the Ministry supports the investigation conducted by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) to determine the exact cause of the incident objectively. As of now, victim data collection is still ongoing, while commuter line operations are temporarily limited to Bekasi Station.
