RRI.CO.ID, Nusantara – The General Elections Commission (KPU) has begun laying the groundwork for democratic processes in the Nusantara capital city (IKN) ahead of the 2029 elections.

By updating voter data and establishing special electoral districts (dapil), the KPU aims to ensure that political representation in the new capital functions optimally from the outset.

“Special electoral districts will be established in the new capital for the 2029 elections, so preparations are already underway,” said KPU Commissioner Iffa Rosita during a working visit to Nusantara on Friday, April 24, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She explained that the creation of special electoral districts is crucial for designing the upcoming elections, particularly for the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

Iffa noted that 2027 will be a pivotal year, marking the start of preparations for the 2029 general election.

“Elections for the DPR and DPD will take place, so the KPU and the Capital City Authority will frequently update voter data for Nusantara. Once preparations are complete, a KPU office will also be built here,” she said.

The working visit also addressed technical aspects of the elections and the capital’s development. The delegation inspected Kusuma Bangsa Park, civil servant housing, and sports facilities, and participated in tree-planting activities.

The Nusantara Capital City Authority reported that development has entered its second phase, focusing on legislative and judicial areas.

Secretary of the Capital City Authority, Bimo Adi Nursanthyasto, emphasized that building the new capital requires more than physical infrastructure; it also demands accurate public information so citizens understand the direction and objectives of the project.

“The development of the new capital is a shared commitment of the Indonesian people. We hope for support in disseminating accurate and constructive information about Nusantara,” Bimo said.

These initial steps prepare the new capital not only as the center of government but also as a space for structured and inclusive democratic practices. ***
