RRI.CO.ID, Bali - Indonesia is strengthening regional cooperation in aviation safety through a data-sharing initiative involving countries across the Asia-Pacific. The effort highlights the growing importance of data-driven approaches in ensuring safer air transport systems.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation under the Ministry of Transportation held the 5th In-Person Meeting on Regional Data Sharing Initiative in Bali, April 20, 2026. The meeting took place at the Regional Airport Authority Office Region IV.
The forum is part of a follow-up to the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding on Regional Aviation Safety Data and Information Sharing Initiative. It aims to harmonize processes and standardize safety data across participating countries.
Director of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operations, Sokhib Al Rokhman, affirmed the importance of regional collaboration in enhancing aviation safety. He noted that data has become a key instrument in supporting effective safety oversight.
“As the aviation industry evolves, data plays a critical role in enabling effective oversight. Through this initiative, we are taking concrete steps toward a more coordinated and data-driven safety approach,” Sokhib said.
The meeting brought together aviation regulators from five ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It also involved international organizations such as the International Air Transport Association and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency.
Participants discussed key safety issues, including Mandatory Occurrence Reports, Ground Proximity Warning System events, and methodologies for monitoring Safety Performance Indicators. They also explored the development of data dashboards to track regional and global safety trends.
“Collaboration shows what we can achieve when we work together. Collective efforts in managing and analyzing data have produced meaningful insights to support aviation safety improvements,” Sokhib conveyed.
Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional collaboration and building a more integrated and proactive aviation safety system. The initiative is expected to enhance synergy among stakeholders and support sustainable aviation safety at both regional and global levels.
