RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - On Kartini Day, the role of Indonesian women sailors in ensuring energy distribution across the archipelago and international routes has been highlighted as a symbol of resilience and dedication. Their presence at sea reflects both professional excellence and the spirit of Kartini’s legacy.

One example is Noor Faridah, a second officer at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, the trading arm of state-owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina, who has operated crude oil and gas carriers on international routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and waters near Iraq.

For her, the sea is more than a workplace. It is a place that builds strength and responsibility.

“Every voyage carries great responsibility. We know the cargo we carry will reach its destination for the community. Being away from my family is part of this journey. But it strengthens my motivation to carry out my duties to the best of my ability,” she said on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Another story comes from Roro Anka Nurasti, a young sailor now serving as a third officer after beginning her career as a fourth officer. Her role demands precision, discipline and readiness on every voyage.

“Being a sailor is not just about work. It’s about having the courage to choose a challenging path. It’s an opportunity to pursue dreams while proving that women can contribute to this field,” she said.

Roro Anka acknowledged that building trust in a male-dominated environment can be difficult, but she sees her career as a way to step beyond boundaries.

The presence of sailors such as Noor Faridah and Roro Anka Nurasti demonstrates that women have space to contribute meaningfully in maritime professions. Through their dedication and professionalism, they help ensure the reliable distribution of energy to communities across Indonesia. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
