RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's Ministry of Culture announced the winners of the 2026 SINEMA Screenwriting Competition in Jakarta, Monday, April 20, 2026. The event was held to commemorate the 76th National Film Day while reinforcing film as a key pillar of cultural development.
The competition, themed “Our Story, Our Nation’s Strength,” aims to urge narratives rooted in Indonesian history while remaining relevant to contemporary audiences. It reflects broader efforts to strengthen national identity through the creative industry.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon praised the finalists and winners during the announcement ceremony. “Amid the rapid flow of global content, film must be positioned as a strong cultural infrastructure,” he said.
He explained that the competition facilitates the creation of scripts that are historically grounded yet narratively expansive. According to him, this approach ensures Indonesia’s collective memory remains relevant and accessible to wider audiences.
Fadli Zon also emphasized the importance of strengthening the national film ecosystem to connect Indonesia’s cultural diversity with economic opportunities. “Screenplays are vital in producing films that gain meaningful appreciation from society,” he noted.
The ministry will continue supporting script development, including initiatives for children’s films, to build a sustainable talent pool. This effort is expected to strengthen the country’s creative resources and long-term industry growth.
Director of Film, Music, and Arts Irini Dewi Wanti said the program reflects the steady progress of Indonesia’s film sector. “SINEMA is not merely an award ceremony, but a moment showing that Indonesian cinema continues to advance as a strategic pillar of cultural development,” she said.
The 2026 competition drew hundreds of submissions from across Indonesia, dominated by young participants, highlighting growing interest in historical storytelling. The government expects the initiative to stimulate high-quality productions and expand Indonesia’s presence in the global film industry.
