RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta Indonesian Vice President, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, departed for Central Papua and Southwest Papua Provinces for a working visit on Monday, 20 April 2026. He has agendas related to accelerating development and improving welfare in the Papua region, including reviewing constructions and discussing local issues with local people.

"This working visit aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive, which emphasizes accelerated development and equitable prosperity in Papua as a national priority," the Vice Presidential Secretariat said in a statement on Monday.

To kick off his activities, Gibran is scheduled to inspect the Port of Nabire and the administrative center of Central Papua, including the construction progress of the civil servant housing complex. He will then continue his trip to Timika for several activities, including social interaction with the community.

"This working visit is part of the government's commitment to ensuring accelerated development in the Papua region, particularly in the infrastructure and public services sectors, as well as improving community welfare," the secretariat said.

In addition to the inspection agenda, the 38-year-old Gibran is also scheduled to hold dialogues with various regional stakeholders to gather aspirations and ensure that government programs are on target. This includes community leaders and local businesspeople.

"The secretariat expects the visit to foster synergy between the central and regional governments in promoting inclusive and sustainable development in Papua," the secretariat said.

Gibran has shown his interest in closing the development gap in Indonesia's easternmost region, with quite high economic inequality and separatism that is prone to increase. Previously, in November 2025, Gibran visited several cities in Papua to oversee current developments.
