RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia is strengthening its cultural diplomacy through the promotion of innovative films rooted in local traditions. Based on a press release received by RRI Voice of Indonesia, Sunday, April 19, 2026, the government expressed support for the national film industry as a medium of cultural expression.

Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, attended the gala premiere of Para Perasuk held in Jakarta on April 16, 2026. His presence underscored the government’s commitment to encouraging cinematic works that highlight Indonesia’s cultural diversity.

The film, directed by award-winning filmmaker Wregas Bhanuteja, represents a new wave of Indonesian cinema that blends artistic exploration with cultural narratives. The minister praised the film for its originality and its ability to bring “living culture” into contemporary storytelling.

“I have just watched this remarkable work by Wregas Bhanuteja, and it is strong, compelling, and truly out of the box,” Fadli Zon said. “This film brings Indonesian cinema to a new level by portraying diverse cultural backgrounds that continue to live and evolve.”

He further highlighted the film’s strengths in storytelling, music, and social messaging, noting its potential for global recognition. “Through its narrative, musical composition, and meaningful messages, this film has strong potential to gain appreciation both domestically and internationally,” he said.

Para Perasuk explores the phenomenon of spirit possession, a practice still present in parts of Indonesian society as part of local beliefs and traditions. The film reflects the dynamic relationship between modern life and enduring cultural practices.

With its strong visual approach and immersive atmosphere, the film offers a unique cinematic experience while encouraging reflection on spirituality and cultural identity. It features prominent Indonesian actors, including Angga Yunanda, Indra Birowo, Maudy Ayunda, and marks the film debut of Anggun C. Sasmi.

The Ministry of Culture emphasized that supporting film production, distribution, and appreciation is part of a broader strategy to advance culture. “Film is not only an artistic medium but also a tool for cultural diplomacy that can showcase Indonesia’s richness on the global stage,” Fadli Zon said.
