RRI.CO.ID, Yogyakarta - Deputy Minister of Creative Economy Irene Umar visited the Bakpia Pathok 25 culinary souvenir producer and the Dagadu clothing brand in Yogyakarta, encouraging both to strengthen their intellectual property (IP) as long‑standing local icons.

“Yogyakarta is a treasure trove of creativity. Bakpia Pathok 25 and Dagadu are pillars that prove local products can endure for decades,” Irene said during her visit on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

She noted that future challenges go beyond production, stressing the importance of managing IP to ensure relevance and added value in the global market.

Irene emphasized that Bakpia Pathok 25’s strength lies in its consistent preservation of heritage and exclusivity of flavor.

The integration of Yogyakarta’s historical narrative, artistic packaging, and digital strategies, she said, creates a cultural romance that resonates with younger generations. “This local delicacy is an authentic Jogja heritage that must not lose its identity, even when produced in large quantities,” she added.

Later, Irene visited the Dagadu Alun‑Alun Utara store, commending the brand’s success in staying relevant for 30 years by blending cultural narratives with modern presentation.

“The key is to evolve by developing intellectual property rights across various industrial sectors, thereby gaining greater bargaining power,” she said.

Irene hopes that the success of Bakpia Pathok 25 and Dagadu would inspire young creative entrepreneurs in Yogyakarta to be more proactive in developing and patenting their IP from an early stage. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
