RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Agus Subiyanto confirmed that the assignment period for Indonesian soldiers serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will conclude soon, with all personnel scheduled to return to Jakarta in May 2026.

“May is indeed the end,” Agus said while attending the National Gathering in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

He also reported on the condition of soldiers injured during their mission. “Some have improved,” he noted, adding that repatriation procedures are underway. One soldier is already preparing for a flight home, while another is still arranging travel. “Thank God, he will soon return to Jakarta for treatment. The other soldier is currently looking for a flight back,” Agus said.

The United Nations previously released initial findings from its investigation into the deaths of Indonesian soldiers in Lebanon. The report concluded that the fatalities resulted from separate incidents.

UN Secretary‑General spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated that one soldier was killed by a tank projectile fired from an Israeli military tank into Lebanese territory. Two other soldiers were killed by an improvised explosive device (IED), which investigators suspect was planted by Hezbollah.

“Regarding the March 30 incident, based on available evidence, including analysis of the blast site, the affected vehicle, and a second IED found nearby, the explosion was caused by an IED activated by the victim via a tripwire. Given the location, the characteristics of the blast, and the current context, the investigation assesses that the IED was likely planted by Hezbollah,” Dujarric explained at a press conference on April 8, 2026.

The Indonesian Military has assured that all personnel will be repatriated as scheduled, with injured soldiers receiving immediate medical care upon arrival in Jakarta. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
