RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Attorney General’s Office has named Hery Susanto, Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman for the 2026–2031 term, as a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving nickel mining business management between 2013 and 2025.

Director of Investigation for Special Crimes at the Attorney General’s Office, Syarif Sulaeman Nahdi, said Hery allegedly committed the crime while serving as a commissioner of the Ombudsman for the 2021–2026 term.

“The bribery transaction occurred in 2025 when he was a commissioner. The suspect determination was made after investigators obtained sufficient evidence through searches and other procedures,” Syarif said in Jakarta on Thursday, April 16, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to investigators, Hery allegedly accepted a bribe of IDR 1.5 billion from PT TSHI to influence the handling of non‑tax state revenue (PNBP) calculations by the Ministry of Forestry. PT TSHI reportedly colluded with Hery to have the Ombudsman correct a ministry policy, allowing the company to calculate its own obligations.

The payment was allegedly made by LKM, Director of PT TSHI. Authorities said Hery’s actions violated multiple articles of Indonesia’s new Criminal Code. He has been detained at the Salemba Detention Center in South Jakarta for 20 days pending further investigation.

Hery Susanto was inaugurated as Ombudsman Chairman by President Prabowo Subianto six days ago, on April 10, 2026.

He was seen leaving the Attorney General’s Office in Jakarta on Thursday morning, wearing a light blue shirt and gray trousers, escorted by officers into a detention vehicle. ***
