RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government promotes religious moderation through the Quran Recitation Competition (Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran/MTQ) integration in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The discussion involved preparations for the 2026 Riau Provincial MTQ in Kuantan Singingi.

Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, stressed MTQ as a strategic instrument for strengthening inclusive religious values. He highlighted integrating spiritual values with local cultural wisdom.

The MTQ is scheduled for June–July 2026 in Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province. It coincides with the traditional Pacu Jalur festival planned for August at the same location.

He viewed this momentum as an opportunity to unify harmony between religion and local traditions. The integration is expected to foster social cohesion and shared cultural identity.

The minister affirmed that local culture plays a key role in promoting religious moderation. Cultural traditions help deliver religious messages in a contextual and relatable manner.

He then explained the broader purpose of MTQ beyond competition activities. The initiative aims to build collective awareness of inclusive and moderate religious values.

“MTQ is not merely a Quran recitation competition, but also a space to build collective awareness about the importance of inclusive and moderate religious values. When combined with traditions like Pacu Jalur, this becomes a powerful force in maintaining social harmony,” he said.

Regent of Kuantan, Singingi Suhardiman Amby, stated that local authorities are finalizing preparations for the event. He noted improvements in infrastructure and community involvement.

Meanwhile, Head of Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Riau, Muliardi, affirmed readiness to oversee preparations across sectors. He said coordination continues to ensure smooth and successful implementation.
