RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Culture is strengthening efforts to preserve the cultural values of Tumbang Anoi, a historic symbol of peace among the Dayak people. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between the government and indigenous community representatives in Jakarta, Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, emphasized the importance of promoting indigenous heritage as part of national cultural advancement. He highlighted Tumbang Anoi as a key historical milestone in maintaining peace among Dayak communities.
Representatives of the Dayak community expressed concern over the declining implementation of customary law in Kalimantan. They stressed that Tumbang Anoi, established in 1894, remains a significant foundation for traditional conflict resolution.
“We hope the customary laws established by our ancestors can be reinstated and not overlooked. We also expect support from the government, particularly the Ministry of Culture,” a representative said.
Community leaders also called for stronger government involvement in promoting the historical significance of Tumbang Anoi. They believe public awareness is essential to preserve this important cultural heritage.
As part of the initiative, the community plans to organize a cultural parade in conjunction with Indonesia’s National Awakening Day on May 20, 2026. The event will involve various groups, including students, universities, and security forces, featuring traditional performances.
Responding to the proposal, Fadli Zon, expressed full support for cultural preservation and the strengthening of historical narratives. He noted that collaboration with relevant institutions would help ensure effective implementation of the program.
The meeting reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with indigenous communities to preserve and promote cultural heritage. It also aims to ensure that the values of peace and tradition continue to benefit future generations.
