Indonesia, Saudi Arabia Expand Deeper Cultural Cooperation Through Museum Visit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, welcomed the visit of Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture, Bader bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud in Jakarta, Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The visit included tours to the National Museum of Indonesia and the National Gallery as part of a bilateral cultural engagement.
Both ministers and their delegations explored exhibitions showcasing Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage and historical civilization. The visit aimed to bolster cultural cooperation of both countries.
At the National Museum, the delegation viewed exhibitions highlighting the early history of the Indonesian archipelago. These displays presented narratives from geological evolution to early human civilization in the region.
Minister Fadli further explained that the exhibitions are designed to provide a comprehensive and scientific account of Indonesia’s long civilizational journey. He noted that Indonesia plays a key role in the study of human evolution, including discoveries such as Homo erectus in Java.
The delegation also visited the Misykat Exhibition, which highlights the early development of Islam in Indonesia. The exhibition features more than 300 artifacts, including manuscripts, tombstones, and various archaeological findings.
“Islam in Indonesia developed through dynamic interactions with local cultures, forming an inclusive and deeply rooted civilization,” Fadli Zon said. He emphasized that this historical process reflects the unique character of Indonesian Islamic culture.
Following the museum visit, both ministers continued their tour at the National Gallery of Indonesia. They observed contemporary art exhibitions, including works by Indonesian women artists that explore themes of art, science, technology, and culture.
The visit marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral cultural relations between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. Both countries are expected to expand cooperation in cultural heritage preservation, creative industries, and international cultural exchanges.
