RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The government has made modernizing the search and rescue (SAR) system at the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) a priority to strengthen rapid response to disasters and accidents across Indonesia.

Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PANRB) Minister Rini Widyantini emphasized the importance of organizational transformation at Basarnas to improve the effectiveness and professionalism of SAR services nationwide.

“This restructuring is being carried out to ensure the effective implementation of search and rescue tasks nationwide,” Minister Rini said during a meeting with Basarnas Head Mohammad Syafii in Jakarta on Monday, April 13, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to Minister Rini, modernization at Basarnas involves not only restructuring its organization but also enhancing human resource competencies and digitalizing systems to accelerate field responses.

These steps are considered crucial to ensuring faster, more accurate, and internationally standardized SAR operations, particularly in increasingly complex emergency situations.

Strengthening the national SAR system is also part of the government’s agenda to bolster resilience against disaster risks, in line with the national development vision outlined in Asta Cita.

As an institution that reports directly to the president, Basarnas plays a strategic role in safeguarding public safety. Organizational restructuring is therefore being encouraged down to the regional technical implementation unit (UPT) level to optimize performance.

Basarnas Head Mohammad Syafii stated that institutional reforms aim to implement SAR policies more effectively and ensure they have a tangible impact.

“Organizational restructuring and strengthening functions within Basarnas are crucial to ensuring the effective implementation of SAR policies,” he said.

The Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform and Basarnas agreed to continue working together to reorganize and streamline procedures to support national search-and-rescue efforts. ***
