RRI.CO.ID, Magelang - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the government's commitment to realizing a national energy solution by accelerating the transition to clean and renewable energy. The president made this statement in his remarks at the inauguration of the PT VKTR Sakti Industries electric commercial vehicle assembly plant in Magelang Regency, Thursday, 9 April 2026.

The President emphasized that energy is one of the most strategic sectors for a nation's sustainability, alongside food. Therefore, Indonesia must be self-sufficient to remain strong and sovereign amidst global dynamics.

"As a country as large as ours, if we want to remain independent, if we want to survive, we must be self-sufficient, and energy is a crucial sector," the President said.

Amid global uncertainty, the President expressed optimism that Indonesia has abundant energy resources. However, energy management must be carried out wisely while prioritizing efficiency and sustainability.

As part of this strategy, President Prabowo emphasized the direction of national policy to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and shift to electricity-based and renewable energy. "One step is to use electricity, electrification. Using electricity to reduce the excessive use of fuel, fossil fuels, and carbon," he said.

On that occasion, the President also announced a plan to build a national electricity capacity of up to 100 gigawatts in a relatively short time. This program will be accompanied by the gradual phasing out of diesel-fired power plants (PLTD) currently in use.

"By closing them, we will save 200,000 barrels per day. We still need to import, currently 1 million barrels per day. By closing the PLTDs, we will save 20 percent immediately," the President explained.

Furthermore, the President stated that through these steps, Indonesia has the potential to significantly reduce or even eliminate fuel imports in the next few years. With these various strategic steps, President Prabowo is optimistic that Indonesia can achieve energy independence while strengthening national resilience amidst global challenges.
