RRI.CO.ID, Palembang - Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in developing the New Palembang Port in South Sumatra. He said coordination between the central government and regional administration is crucial to ensure the project proceeds as planned and meets safety standards.

The project launch follows the handover of land management rights covering 59.5 hectares from the provincial administration. The land will be used to support the port’s development as a modern logistics hub.

An agreement was also reached on the planned grant of the Mozaik 5 and Mozaik 6 areas to the ministry. These areas are expected to serve as operational support for the New Palembang Port and to be integrated with other transportation networks.

“This project holds a significant position within the broader national development agenda. Specifically, it aims to enhance logistics efficiency and Indonesia’s economic competitiveness on the global stage,” Minister Dudy said during the launch of the New Palembang Port Project in Tanjung Carat, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra, on Wednesday, April 9, 2026.

He noted that South Sumatra Province is one of the main pillars of the national economy, with vast natural resources. He added that the province’s potential includes key commodities such as coal, palm oil, and rubber, which are highly valuable.

Minister Dudy emphasized that the port's construction is a strategic step to address the region’s growing logistics needs. The new port is expected to strengthen connectivity and support regional economic growth.

The port is designed as a modern logistics hub capable of overcoming the limitations of the existing facilities at Boom Baru Port. Integration with other transportation networks is considered key to ensuring more efficient and secure goods distribution.

“In the future, we must jointly oversee the construction of this port based on the principles of timely completion, quality assurance, and maximum benefit. It must not only be physically completed but also be capable of operating optimally and integrating with other transportation networks,” said Minister Dudy. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
