  • Indonesia gave digital platforms three months to complete risk profile self-assessments under child protection rules.
  • YouTube is the only major platform sanctioned for failing to comply with Indonesia’s child protection regulation.

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has given Electronic System Providers (ESPs) a three-month deadline to fulfill their platform risk profile self-assessment obligations under the Government Regulation on Child Protection.

“We urge platforms that have not yet complied to immediately carry out and report the results of their independent risk profile assessments for all digital platforms within three months,” said Communication and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid at a press conference in Central Jakarta on Thursday, April 9, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Eight platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox, have already implemented Government Regulation No. 17/2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP Tunas).

The Directorate General of Digital Space Supervision at the ministry commended these platforms for demonstrating good faith in complying with the law.

Minister Meutya emphasized that her ministry would take firm action against platforms that fail to comply. “We will not hesitate to take strong measures against platforms that shirk their obligations or violate Indonesian law,” she said.

She noted that Google’s YouTube is the only platform among the eight that has not complied with the provisions and has not shown good faith in restricting child access in line with PP Tunas. As of April 9, Google has been sanctioned under the regulation, receiving a formal warning from the Director General of Cyberspace Supervision.

Ministerial Regulation No. 9/2026, which implements PP Tunas, stipulates sanctions for non-compliance, including administrative warnings, temporary access suspension, and even termination of access. ***
