RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto, expressed optimism about the government’s ability to face the global energy crisis. He made the statement during a briefing at a Government Working Meeting with members of the Red and White Cabinet, senior officials, and state-owned enterprise leaders at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

He said that despite global uncertainty, Indonesia has maintained national stability. “We are able to control the direction of our development and the course of our nation. We can navigate through dangerous challenges, and over the past one and a half years, we have proven that our government is effective, reliable, and capable of carrying out its duties properly and well,” the President said.

In his remarks, President Prabowo also reminded that the world has long faced the potential for a global crisis covering three key sectors: food, energy, and water. This projection, he noted, had been outlined by the Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Several years ago, the United Nations predicted that the global crisis would involve three areas: food, energy, and water. These have already been identified and outlined by the UN,” he said.

Addressing current global developments, the President highlighted conflicts in the Middle East that have driven up global energy prices. However, he underscored that Indonesia remains in a relatively secure position.

“I have studied the data and figures, and based on reports from my ministers, our condition is quite safe. There are challenges and difficulties, but we are capable of facing and overcoming them,” he said.

In addition, President Prabowo, explained that in the short term, the government has prepared strategic measures to maintain national energy stability, particularly in the next 12 months. He underlined that controlling fuel consumption would be a key focus during this critical period.

“Some measures are aimed at controlling fuel consumption in the short term. What I consider critical is the next 12 months. After that, we will become very strong. The key point is that we are ready and strong to face this one-year period,” he said.

He also assured that the government would continue to protect lower-income groups through targeted energy subsidies, prioritizing support for those most in need while encouraging wealthier citizens to pay market prices.

“Subsidized fuel will be maintained for the poor and vulnerable, covering around 80 percent of our population. However, those who can afford it should pay the market price for higher-cost fuel,” the President stated.

Furthermore, President Prabowo stressed the importance of accelerating the transition toward national energy independence based on domestic resources and renewable energy. He described the global crisis as an opportunity to push reforms, improve efficiency, and ensure clean governance without waste, leakage, or corruption.
