RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that the accelerated development of new and renewable energy (NRE) must be implemented immediately as a strategic step to achieve national energy security.

He said the acceleration of NRE development presents an opportunity for Indonesia to address the global energy crisis, which has been triggered by tensions in the Middle East that disrupted energy distribution routes for many countries.

“This global energy crisis, in my view, is an opportunity to accelerate our efforts and make us more focused. We must accelerate the transition to renewable energy,” President Prabowo said during a briefing at the Government Working Meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

In addition to renewable energy, President Prabowo noted that Indonesia’s abundant coal reserves could help meet energy needs, including the demand for gasoline and diesel.

He also highlighted the development of biofuels as an alternative to achieve energy sovereignty, citing the potential of coal, cassava, and corn as sources for producing diesel and gasoline. “We can produce diesel and gasoline from coal, cassava, and corn,” President Prabowo added.
