RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment has confirmed that Indonesian migrant workers departing for Japan on April 3, 2026, will receive social security protection from the Workers' Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).

Coordinating Minister Muhaimin Iskandar said the government is committed to strengthening the protection system for Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) to enhance global confidence in the quality and security of Indonesian labor abroad.

“I want our migrant workers to continue working comfortably, with income certainty and protection. Indeed, the social protection provided by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan continues to be optimized,” he stated in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

According to Muhaimin, this effort is not only aimed at protecting workers but also at improving Indonesia’s credibility as a provider of systematically guaranteed labor.

He called on ministries, institutions, and Indonesian representatives abroad to strengthen synergies to ensure maximum protection for migrant workers, both before departure and during employment. “This social protection cannot work alone. It must involve all parties so that its benefits are truly felt by our migrant workers,” he said.

The initiative is part of reforms in the governance of Indonesian migrant worker placement, designed to make the system more integrated, accessible, and beneficial to workers.

As part of the implementation, 200 Indonesian migrant workers have been sent to Japan under the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) scheme in the manufacturing sector. The program also supports the “SMK Go Global” initiative to improve human resource quality.

The workers include 50 supported through the CSR program of PT Angkasa Pura, 30 through the CSR program of PT Kereta Api Indonesia, and 120 facilitated by the Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Company (P3MI).

Through this comprehensive and collaborative protection approach, the government hopes Indonesian migrant workers will not only work safely but also serve as ambassadors of Indonesia’s workforce quality on the global stage. ***
