RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has called for transparency in the investigation of the acid attack case against activist Andrie Yunus. To this end, Komnas HAM has requested direct access to question the suspects, who are currently under the jurisdiction of the Indonesian Military (TNI).
Komnas HAM Commissioner Saurlin P. Siagian said his office had submitted an official letter to the TNI requesting permission to question the four suspects. He explained that this step is crucial to enrich the findings and verify the consistency of information gathered from various sources.
“We have submitted a letter to the TNI requesting access to question the four suspects. We are still awaiting the results,” Saurlin said at the Komnas HAM Building in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Komnas HAM has also coordinated with the Indonesian Military Police Headquarters (Puspom TNI) to ensure a transparent investigation.
Coordinator of the human rights enforcement subcommission at Komnas HAM, Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, said that the commission had summoned representatives of Puspom TNI on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, to discuss developments in the case.
“When we requested information from the TNI last week, one of our requests was for the Puspom TNI investigation to proceed transparently. We made three requests, one of which was that Komnas HAM be granted access to meet with the four perpetrators. That is what we are currently coordinating,” he said.
Komnas HAM has proposed April 10, 2026, as the hearing date, but is still awaiting approval from Puspom TNI. Amid public demands that the case be processed through a general court, Komnas HAM has opened the possibility that other parties may be involved beyond the four suspects already detained.
Pramono said that uncovering the involvement of other actors would increase the likelihood of bringing the case to a broader judicial level.
Through these efforts, Komnas HAM reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the legal process is transparent, accountable, and responsive to public demands for justice.
The case stems from the acid attack on activist Andrie Yunus, which allegedly implicated four TNI members as suspects. The investigation is currently being handled by the military through Puspom TNI, but it has drawn significant public attention and calls from civil society for a transparent legal process and, if possible, a general trial. ***
