RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that changes in government must be carried out through legal and peaceful mechanisms.

“If a government is deemed unsound, then replace it. There are proper mechanisms, peacefully, and it can be done through general elections, no problem,” the President said during a government working meeting at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

He referred to Indonesia’s history of peaceful leadership transitions, noting that this demonstrated the strength of the nation’s democratic system. “Throughout history, several changes have occurred: Mr. Soekarno stepped down peacefully, Mr. Suharto stepped down peacefully, and Mr. Gus Dur stepped down peacefully. These changes occurred through a process, not through violence, so let’s trust in the system established by our nation’s founders,” President Prabowo said.

The President urged the public to maintain faith in the democratic system, stressing that constitutional mechanisms are the best way to safeguard national stability.

On the same occasion, President Prabowo responded to criticism of his administration, describing it as part of an evaluation that must be handled wisely. “This is a problem for us, yes, we must be vigilant, and we will accept the corrections. If we are slandered, if we are slandered, consider it a warning to be vigilant,” he said.

President Prabowo also stated that the government had achieved several milestones during his leadership. “We have reached real milestones and made tangible achievements,” he said.

He acknowledged that the global situation remains uncertain due to ongoing conflicts in various regions. Nevertheless, he assured that the government is capable of maintaining the direction of national development. “Thank God, our government, which you are part of, is one that I lead.
