Indonesia Urges Universities to Stay Resilient Amid Global Geopolitical Shifts

RRI.CO.Id, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has called for greater vigilance among higher education institutions in response to evolving global geopolitical dynamics. The message was delivered during a Board of Trustees meeting at the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), in Depok, Tuesday, April 7, 2026, where strategic issues affecting the education sector were discussed.

Speaking in his capacity as a member of the Board of Trustees, Nasaruddin Umar highlighted that global geopolitical developments could significantly impact Indonesia’s economic stability, he stressed the importance of preparedness within the education sector.

The meeting, held at the UIII rectorate building, focused on the broader implications of global uncertainty on national resilience. Universities, he noted, must anticipate potential disruptions and adapt their strategies accordingly.

“Global geopolitical changes must be carefully observed, as their impact extends beyond the economic sector and may affect the sustainability and quality of our education,” Nasaruddin Umar said.

In addition to external challenges, the Board of Trustees also discussed internal institutional matters, including academic development, financial conditions, and strategic planning. Members contributed insights aimed at strengthening UIII’s role as a globally competitive higher education institution.

UIII Rector Jamhari Makruf, Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary General, Kamaruddin Amin, and other board members were also present at the meeting. Their participation reflected a collective effort to enhance institutional governance and long-term planning.

Through this forum, UIII is expected to formulate responsive and forward-looking policies to navigate global dynamics. The university aims to maintain educational quality while ensuring sustainable institutional management.
