RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is investigating the implementation of the Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS) on the Steam platform.
The Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the Ministry’s Directorate General of Digital Ecosystems, Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, announced the investigation during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
Sonny said the investigation was prompted by findings of discrepancies between age classifications and the actual content of games on Steam. He noted that this issue has become a concern because some content does not comply with regulatory standards.
He explained that the ministry is conducting a thorough review of several games available in Indonesia. “We agreed to conduct an investigation both internally, within the ministry, and externally, specifically on Steam,” Sonny said.
The investigation aims to examine the platform’s classification mechanisms and the role of game developers as content providers. This approach is intended to provide a comprehensive understanding of the findings and their resolution.
Sonny added that the review covers the production, evaluation, and distribution of content to ensure that games are accessible according to age classifications.
“In the future, improvements will be made. Whether to the system or to compliance mechanisms regarding regulations. The primary goal of implementing the IGRS is to provide clear guidance for parents so that children play games appropriate for their age,” said Sonny. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
