RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government aims to complete post-disaster recovery efforts in several regions of Sumatra within three years, following a ministerial-level meeting held in Jakarta , Monday, April 6, 2026. The program covers disaster-affected areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, who also serves as head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force, said the government has prepared strategic measures to accelerate recovery. The plan is designed to ensure a structured and effective implementation process across affected regions.

Priority programs for 2026 include the construction of permanent housing, the repair and rebuilding of key bridges and main roads, as well as large-scale mud clearance in disaster-hit areas. These efforts are expected to address urgent needs while restoring basic infrastructure.

The recovery framework is based on a master plan developed by the National Development Planning Agency. The plan outlines a three-year roadmap for rehabilitation and reconstruction activities.

Tito stated, “So this is the recovery program, which we estimate will take around three years. Therefore, a master plan has been prepared by the National Development Planning Agency for this three-year period.”

In addition, he added that the government will review the master plan under the direction of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs as head of the steering committee. The review aims to determine priority programs to be implemented in 2026.

The government emphasized that coordination with local administrations will play a key role in the success of the recovery process. This approach is intended to ensure that policies are aligned with conditions and needs at the regional level.

Authorities expect that the phased and coordinated recovery strategy will not only accelerate rebuilding efforts but also strengthen resilience in disaster-prone areas across Sumatra.
