RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital has confirmed that the Indonesian Game Rating System (IGRS) ratings displayed on a number of games on the Steam platform do not represent official classification results verified by the Indonesian government.

The ministry condemns the practice of providing inaccurate classification information, as it could directly impact public protection in the digital space.

According to a press release received by RRI VOI by the Ministry of Communication and Digital on Sunday, April 5, 2026, Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the Directorate General of Digital Ecosystems, Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, stated that monitoring results indicate that the ratings displayed on the platform are still derived from an internal, self-declaration mechanism and have not undergone an official verification process in accordance with Indonesian regulations.

"The circulating ratings are not the official IGRS classification results. This has the potential to cause public misunderstanding, particularly regarding the age-appropriateness of a game," he said.

The ministry also found indications of the use of IGRS labels on the platform through an internal mechanism without official verification, thus not reflecting legitimate classification results.

In addition, the government also affirmed that every digital business operator has an obligation to convey accurate, clear, and non-misleading information, while ensuring user protection.

Based on these provisions, the Ministry of Communication and Digital ) assessed that there were indications of inconsistencies between the information displayed and applicable regulations in Indonesia, such as the display of unofficial ratings and the use of the IGRS label without official verification.

The Ministry of Communication and Digital stated that it would immediately request official clarification from Steam and conduct further discussions to ensure compliance with national regulations.

"We ask platforms to ensure that all information displayed to the public is accurate and accountable. This is not only a matter of compliance, but also a responsibility to protect users, especially children," he emphasized.
