RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital has announced its readiness to collaborate with the Healthcare and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) to improve public services through artificial intelligence (AI).

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, said conventional methods are no longer sufficient to handle the vast amounts of data required by organizations such as BPJS Kesehatan.

“Large-scale data management can no longer be done manually. The data is large and moves quickly. AI is a necessity to ensure faster and more accurate public services,” Nezar said while receiving BPJS Kesehatan’s Director of Information Technology, Setiaji, at the ministry’s office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted on the ministry’s official website.

Nezar explained that the ministry has already established a talent development ecosystem through the AI Talent Factory program, which is ready to be deployed to meet these needs.

The program involves students from leading universities, including Brawijaya University (UB), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and the University of Indonesia (UI).

It is supported by global technology companies such as Google, Apple, and Amazon, as well as international academic institutions including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Oxford.

“Our partners include Google, Apple, Amazon, MIT, and Oxford. As a result, the talent created is prepared to satisfy actual demands,” Nezar said. He emphasized that collaboration with BPJS Kesehatan could begin immediately by combining existing data, use cases, and talent. “The goal is clear: faster and more accurate public services.”

BPJS Kesehatan has already begun adopting AI in several services, including chatbots, claims analysis, and smart analytics. However, according to Setiaji, the development still faces limitations, particularly in the system’s ability to understand more complex user needs. “We’ve started building chatbots, claims analysis, and smart analytics. But there are still gaps, especially in model development and data utilization,” he said.

The government aims to achieve a leap in service quality through this synergy, including quicker responses, more streamlined claims procedures, and better use of health data in policy-making. The partnership is also expected to strengthen BPJS Kesehatan’s internal capacity through knowledge transfer and talent development. ***
