RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia commemorated the 76th National Film Day with a renewed push to elevate its film industry onto the global stage. The event was officially opened by Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, at CGV Grand Indonesia in Jakarta, Wednesday, 2 April 2026.

The celebration featured a screening of Darah dan Doa, the first Indonesian national film directed by Usmar Ismail in 1950. The film is widely regarded as a historical milestone in the birth of Indonesia’s film industry.

In his remarks, Fadli Zon emphasized the strategic role of film in promoting Indonesia’s cultural richness worldwide. He stated, “Film is a powerful platform to introduce Indonesia’s culture, encompassing performing arts, music, dance, literature, language, and traditions.”

He added that Indonesia’s cultural diversity provides a vast source of stories for the global film market. “With more than 1,300 ethnic groups and hundreds of local languages, Indonesia has extraordinary storytelling potential,” Fadli said.

The Ministry of Culture continues to strengthen the national film ecosystem through talent development and funding support. It also facilitates Indonesian filmmakers’ participation in international film festivals to expand global exposure.

Fadli highlighted the importance of collaboration in building a sustainable film industry. He noted, “We aim to develop a strong ecosystem through partnerships between government, private sector, and filmmakers.”

Film director Joko Anwar underscored the importance of understanding history as a foundation for progress. He said, “We cannot move forward without understanding our roots and the starting point of our cinema.”

He further stressed that authentic storytelling is Indonesia’s key strength in competing globally. “The power of Indonesian storytelling can position our films on the world cinema map,” Joko added.
