RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Vice President Gibran Rakabuming expressed condolences for the deaths of three Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The three soldiers were Captain Inf. Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan, and Private Farizal Rhomadhon. “My highest respect for the dedication of these soldiers who carried out their duty to maintain world peace,” the Vice President said in a statement received by RRI on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

He also voiced support for the Indonesian government’s efforts to demand a thorough investigation into the attacks. Indonesia has requested a swift, transparent, and comprehensive inquiry to identify those responsible. “I fully support the UN’s investigation and careful handling as directed by President Prabowo, including maximum efforts for the repatriation of the bodies,” he said.

The three soldiers, members of the Garuda Contingent Task Force, were killed in two separate incidents in southern Lebanon within less than 24 hours, amid escalating conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

The first incident occurred on Sunday evening, March 28, 2026, when a projectile struck the Indonesian UNIFIL headquarters near Adchit al-Qusayr. The explosion killed Private Farizal and injured several others.

The second incident took place on Monday, March 30, 2026, when an explosion hit a UNIFIL logistics convoy near Bani Hayyan, destroying a vehicle carrying peacekeepers. Captain Zulmi and Sergeant Muhammad were killed, while two others were injured.

The United Nations strongly condemned both incidents, stressing that peacekeepers must not be targeted. UN officials said UNIFIL personnel continued to carry out their Security Council mandate despite extremely dangerous conditions.

The organization confirmed that this was the second fatality within 24 hours and announced that an investigation was underway to determine whether the incidents were linked to military activity in an active combat zone.

The UN emphasized that all parties are obligated under international law to ensure the safety of peacekeeping personnel, and that attacks against them constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law. (Misni Parjiati/Lasti Martina)
