RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) is demanding a thorough assessment of TNI deployments in international missions, including reviewing the possibility of adjustments or even withdrawing troops from high-risk areas.

As quoted by dpr.go.id, the Deputy Chair of Commission I DPR RI, Dave Akbarshah Fikarno, considers the death of a TNI soldier during a peacekeeping mission in Lebanon as a wake-up call to reassess security risks and readiness of deployments in conflict zones.

“This incident must serve as a basis for joint evaluation. We need to review whether deployments in such areas are still appropriate given the level of risk,” Dave stated during an interview at the Nusantara II Building, Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, 30 March 2026.

He underscored that every overseas deployment must carefully consider ground security conditions, including the rapidly changing dynamics of conflict.

According to him, the evaluation should not only cover technical aspects but also include a strategic assessment of the viability of the mission, including the possibility of adjusting the number of personnel or even conducting a temporary withdrawal if the situation is deemed unsafe.

“We must be realistic in assessing conditions on the ground. If the level of threat increases, then options such as adjustments or troop withdrawal must be seriously considered,” he said.

He added that the safety of soldiers must remain the top priority in every deployment policy, without neglecting Indonesia’s commitment to global peacekeeping missions.

Commission I DPR RI, he continued, will carry out its oversight role to ensure the government conducts a comprehensive evaluation, including strengthening risk mitigation systems in every international assignment.

“We continue to support Indonesia’s active role in peacekeeping missions, but the safety of our soldiers must not be compromised,” he stated.

The evaluation is expected to serve as a basis for the government in determining future steps, whether through strengthening security systems or adjusting policies for deploying TNI personnel in conflict areas.
