President Prabowo Arrives in Tokyo, Begins First Japan Visit

RRI.CO.ID, Tokyo Indonesia’s President, Prabowo Subianto, departed for Japan on Sunday, 29 March 2026, in his first official visit as president. Inviting some of his ministers, the visit will discuss sectors of collaboration, including clean energy.

Prabowo and his delegation departed from Jakarta on Sunday morning and arrived in Tokyo that evening. He was welcomed by Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Iwao Horii, and several Indonesian officials.

"The Indonesian Presidential aircraft Indonesia-1, carrying President Prabowo and his delegation, landed on Sunday, 29 March 2026, at 7:10 PM local time," the country's Presidential Secretariat said in a written statement on Monday, 30 March 2026.

During the visit, Prabowo is scheduled to communicate with Emperor Naruhito and meet with Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The Presidential Secretariat hopes that this visit will further open up new opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration between Indonesia and Japan and strengthen the partnership between the two countries.

This visit reflects the close and long-standing friendship between Indonesia and Japan, built on mutual trust and respect. President Prabowo’s visit is also expected to further open up new opportunities for mutually beneficial collaboration and strengthen the partnership between the two nations.

"This meeting is expected to be a strategic opportunity to strengthen cooperation in various fields. Several collaborations are underway in investment, energy, maritime affairs, and digital," Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained.

Prabowo also invited some ministers to Japan, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia. Bahlil's presence was confirmed by theMinistry of Energy and Mineral Resources spokesperson, Dwi Anggia .

"The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources accompanied President Prabowo on his visit to Japan. Several projects were discussed, including those in the energy sector, for the development of sustainable clean energy," Anggia said in another statement on Sunday, emphasizing energy cooperation with Japan as a significant potential for strengthening Indonesia's energy security.
