RRI.CO.ID, Surabaya - Indonesian Ministry of Creative Economy reaffirmed its support for the gaming and esports industry during the PUBG MOBILE 8th anniversary celebration held on March 28–29, 2026, in Surabaya, East Java.

Creative Economy Deputy Minister Irene Umar said gaming is one of the strategic subsectors of Indonesia’s creative economy. She emphasized that Indonesia is not only a gaming market but also a source of creative talent.

“Indonesian gamers are among the largest in the world, second only to China. If we are not only skilled at playing games but also able to develop digital assets and create content, then Indonesia will be on the map,” Irene said on Saturday, March 28, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She explained that behind every major game lies a long creative value chain involving programmers, game artists, music composers, story writers, animators, and community managers.

The ministry is committed to building an ecosystem that produces not only professional players but also behind-the-scenes talent, including coaches, analysts, broadcasters, and event organizers. “Our goal is clear: Indonesia must move up from being merely a game consumer to a game creator,” she added.

East Java Deputy Governor Emil Elestianto Dardak highlighted the economic impact of the PUBG MOBILE celebration in Surabaya. He noted that thousands of visitors from regions including Jakarta and Kalimantan contributed to the local economy through spending on food, retail, and transportation.

“We want to be present in the digital world, not just spectators. Thank you to PUBG for holding an event of this scale here, so the economy is not only digital but also real,” Emil said. ***
