Indonesia Expands Mosque Services to Support Eid Return Travelers

RRI.CO.ID, Medan - Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Muhammad Syafi'i, inspected return-flow services at two “Traveler-Friendly Mosques” in North Sumatra, Friday, March 27, 2026. The visit included Masjid Ar-Rivai TPI Medan and Masjid Al-Jihad Batang Kuis.

During the visit, Syafi’i emphasized the importance of enhancing mosque services to support travelers during the Eid period. He noted that thousands of mosques across Indonesia have been designated to assist returning migrants.

A total of 6,529 mosques nationwide have been officially designated as “Traveler-Friendly Mosques” for Eid 2026. The program reflects Indonesia’s tradition of homecoming, which carries deep religious and social values.

“Mosques are not only places of worship but also service centers for travelers seeking rest and safety,” Syafi’i said. He added that the initiative aims to ensure a comfortable and secure journey for all returnees.

He also called on mosque administrators to provide full support as the peak approaches in the coming days. According to him, community-based service plays a key role in ensuring smooth travel during the busy period.

Syafi’i praised mosque management teams for offering facilities such as free lodging, круглосуточный services, and food for travelers. He highlighted the proactive approach of mosque committees that actively reach out to travelers in transit areas.

“The most remarkable aspect is that some mosque teams actively invite travelers from roadsides and terminals to rest free of charge,” he said. He noted that such initiatives demonstrate creativity and strong community spirit.

Concluding his remarks, Syafi’i underscored the importance of cross-sector coordination to maintain safety and comfort. “This program also reflects interfaith solidarity, as various houses of worship contribute to supporting travelers and strengthening harmony,” he stated.
