RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has secured 29th place globally in Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026. The result marks a major milestone for the university’s growing international academic standing.

The rankings, released, in Jakarta Thursday, 26 March 2026 highlight UIN Jakarta’s strong overall score of 76.1 across multiple indicators. These include Employer Reputation, H-index, Citations per Paper, and Academic Reputation, reflecting robust research and academic performance.

This achievement represents a significant leap from previous years, when UIN Jakarta ranked between 101–150 in 2025 and 101–140 in 2024. The jump to 29th place signals rapid progress in academic quality and global competitiveness.

With this ranking, UIN Jakarta surpasses several prominent global institutions, including Fordham University and University of Birmingham. It also ranks above Al-Azhar University, one of the world’s most renowned centers of Islamic scholarship.

At the national level, other Indonesian universities also appear in the rankings, including UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and Universitas Gadjah Mada. Their inclusion highlights Indonesia’s growing presence in global religious studies education.

The top positions globally are occupied by leading institutions such as University of Notre Dame and University of Oxford. These universities continue to dominate the field with long-established academic traditions.

Rector Asep Saepudin Jahar said the achievement reflects the collective efforts of the academic community. “This is the result of strong collaboration and dedication in building a globally competitive academic tradition,” he stated.

He added that the recognition brings both pride and responsibility for further improvement. “This is not only an achievement but also a responsibility to continuously strengthen academic quality and global engagement,” he emphasized.
