RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is targeting the completion of 101 permanent People’s School units across the country by June 2026. The schools are expected to begin operating before the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
The project is part of the second phase of the government’s People’s School program. The initiative aims to expand access to education for disadvantaged communities across Indonesia.
Head of the Presidential Staff Office, Muhammad Qodari, announced the update in Jakarta, Wedensday, March 25, 2026. He said that construction has already begun at 101 out of 104 planned locations.
The government is prioritizing the completion of the facilities within the next few months. This will allow the schools to welcome students when the new academic year starts in July 2026.
The second phase of construction covers 104 locations spread across the Indonesian archipelago. The program reflects the government’s effort to strengthen education infrastructure in multiple regions.
According to him, the largest number of projects is located on Java with 40 sites. Other locations include 26 in Sumatra, 12 in Kalimantan, and 16 in Sulawesi.
Additional schools are being built in eastern and island regions of the country. These include three locations each in Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and Papua, as well as four in the Maluku Islands.
As of March 23, 2026, national construction progress has reached 17.04 percent. However, several challenges remain, including land issues in Aceh Singkil and road access problems in East Lampung.
