RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s naval strength received a major boost on Thursday, March 26, 2026, with the arrival of its newest warship, KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321, at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta.

Built by Italian shipyard Fincantieri, the vessel is designed for multi-role missions ranging from patrols and surface warfare to anti-submarine and air defense operations.

Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Muhammad Ali said the ship’s weapons systems are still under review, particularly its missile options. “We are considering several choices -- missiles from Italy, MBDA France, and possibly Turkey. The decision is still under evaluation,” he told reporters, as quoted by Antara.

He added that while sensors are yet to be finalized, the ship’s artillery systems have already been confirmed. The frigate, measuring 143 meters long and 16.5 meters wide, sailed from La Spezia, Italy, on February 11, 2026, before docking briefly in Lampung earlier this week.

Prior to its arrival, the vessel underwent combat readiness trials, including a structural firing test of its 127mm OTO Melara main gun -- marking the first time an Indonesian Navy ship has operated a large-caliber gun above 120mm.

Additional armaments include a 76mm Strales gun for medium-range air targets, 16 vertical launch missile cells, Teseo Mk-2E surface-to-surface missiles, anti-submarine torpedoes, and close-range automatic weapons. Navy spokesman Admiral Tunggul emphasized that the ship’s versatility will support law enforcement, asset protection, and humanitarian missions.

The commissioning of KRI Prabu Siliwangi-321 is expected to strengthen Indonesia’s maritime defense posture and reinforce the Navy’s role in safeguarding national sovereignty and security across its vast waters. ***
