Govt Accelerates Downstreaming and Energy Strategy

RRI.CO.ID, Bogor - The Indonesian government is accelerating downstreaming and strengthening national energy resilience through integrated strategic policies. Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources Minister, Bahlil Lahadalia, made the statement after a limited meeting in Hambalang, Bogor on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

He highlighted downstreaming as a top government priority program. The minister said several projects have entered groundbreaking stages while others will begin implementation next month.

As quoted by the president's official website, from the initial twenty downstreaming projects, some have already reached early development stages. The remaining projects are scheduled to begin construction phases in the coming months according to government plans.

“We will add another 13 downstreaming projects with total investment of around 239 trillion rupiah,” Bahlil said. He also saidthe projects finalization will be discussed.

The government is also focusing on developing alternative energy to achieve national energy independence. According to Bahlil, President Prabowo Subianto directed optimization of domestic energy sources including ethanol and biodiesel from crude palm oil.

Besides energy, the president also gave special intsruction for natural resources management in prioritizing the nation's interest. He affirmed the importance of maintainting natural resources as national strategic asset while encouraging the optimization of state revenue from mineral sector.

The minister further explained that the government's future target is ensuring the downstreaming stays optimal, energy transition keeps moving forward, and energy commodity production is balanced with the market demands. The government also attempts to keep commodity prices competitive without sacrificing national interest.
