RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Senator of Indonesia’s Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) from the Jakarta Regional Election, Dailami Firdaus, has expressed his support for the policy of the Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital, which plans to restrict children’s access to social media.

In a press statement received by RRI VOI on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, he stated that it is a strategic effort to protect the younger generation from negative impacts of the digital world which cannot be controlled.

“This restriction is not a form of prohibition, but protection. Children need a healthy environment to grow, both mentally and socially,” the senator conveyed on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, has conveyed the implementation of restrictions on social media use for children under the age of 16.

This policy is outlined in Ministerial Regulation of Communication and Digital Affairs No. 9 of 2026, which derives from Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Implementation for Child Protection, also known as PP TUNAS.

Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, stated that the issuance of this regulation is part of the government’s efforts to foster child protection in the digital space.

According to her, children today face various risks when accessing the internet, ranging from exposure to negative content to potential online crimes. She further explained that these threats include pornography, cyberbullying, and online fraud.

Moreover, Dailami noted that without adequate supervision, children’s use of social media could lead to various problems, such as cyberbullying, exposure to inappropriate content, and the spread of unverified information.

He underscored that this policy must be accompanied by massive digital education efforts, both for children and parents. He said the role of the family is crucial in supervising and guiding children when interacting in the digital space.

“Parents cannot fully delegate responsibility to the government. There must be collaboration between the state, schools, and families so that children can use technology wisely,” he affirmed.

In addition, Dailami also urged digital platforms to take responsibility by reinforcing their security systems, including age verification and child-friendly content filtering. “I also encourage the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), both at the central and regional levels, to take an active role in monitoring the digital space,” he said.

He expects the policy will serve as an initial step in building a healthier and safer digital ecosystem for Indonesian younger generation.

“With proper regulation and support from all parties, we want to ensure that Indonesian children grow into a smart, well-characterized generation, free from the negative impacts of technology,” Dailami said.
