RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Transportation is calling on holiday travellers to maximize Work From Anywhere (WFA) policies to stagger their return to the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) to reduce congestion expected during the peakreturn flow on March 24, 2026.

According to data from Jasa Marga (Highway Service), approximately 285,000 vehicles are expected to flood the toll roads heading toward Jabodetabek on Tuesday. To counter this, authorities are encouraging those with flexible work arrangements to delay their travel.

“We urge the public to take advantage of the provided WFA time so they can return on March 25, 26, or 27,” said Aan Suhanan, Director General of Land Transportation, in Jakarta on Monday, March 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

While the WFA policy is officially in effect for government employees and those in State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), the Ministry is strongly encouraging the private sector to follow suit.

“Our hope is that private entrepreneurs provide flexibility to their employees to utilize WFA in managing their return timing,” Aan added.

The urgency stems from the record-breaking surge seen during the departure phase earlier this month. As of March 22, only about 39.9 percent of the projected 3.4 million vehicles have returned to Jakarta via the four main gates: Cikupa Toll Gate (TG), Ciawi TG, Cikatama TG, and Kalihurip Utama TG.

In addition to timing, officials are emphasizing safety protocols for those currently on the road. Travelers are reminded to limit their stays at toll rest areas to 30 minutes to allow space for others or to seek rest areas located just outside the toll exits.

Most importantly, the Ministry issued a stern warning against stopping on the shoulder of the road. “We also remind the public to use rest areas as best as possible. We hope all stakeholders and the public can work together to create a safe, secure, and comfortable return flow,” Aan concluded.

By utilizing remote work capabilities and practicing disciplined road behavior, the government hopes to transform a potentially gridlocked week into a manageable transition back to the capital. ***
