RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is coordinating across ministries and agencies to ensure that religious events on March 19, 2026, proceed safely and peacefully. Deputy Minister for the Coordination of Character Building and National Identity at the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Warsito, made the statement.
Warsito noted that the date coincides with Nyepi Day, a Hindu holiday, and the night of takbir leading up to Eid al-Fitr. “Since before Ramadan, we have been coordinating across ministries and agencies to ensure religious celebrations proceed safely,” he said in an interview with PRO3 RRI on Thursday, March 19.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs serve as the main pillars alongside other ministries, anticipating crowds and maintaining interfaith tolerance.
The government is also preparing for the exodus flow, particularly of travelers from Eastern Indonesia passing through Bali. Returnees are urged to respect Hindu worship practices during Nyepi.
“This nation has a very high level of understanding regarding differences in religious practices, in this case, between religious communities, so when they know Nyepi is approaching, Muslim communities have certainly prepared themselves,” Warsito said.
Meanwhile, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar called on all elements of the nation to use Nyepi as an opportunity to strengthen unity. He said this year’s Nyepi celebration is special because it falls during Ramadan and shortly before Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.
“This is not merely a coincidence, but a reminder that we share the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, One Earth, One Family,” Minister Nasaruddin said, quoting the Hindu text Maha Upanishad. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
